The short version
What we collect
- Server logs. Like any website, our hosting infrastructure automatically records technical information about each request: your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, and the time. This is needed to deliver and secure the site.
- Search queries. When you use search, the words you type are sent to our server to return results.
- Messages you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you tell us.
- Preferences on your device. Your chosen theme and edition are saved in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers them. They never leave your device. See our cookies page.
We do not ask readers for names, accounts, payment details or other personal information.
How we use it
- To serve the site and keep it secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To return search results.
- To respond to tips, corrections and enquiries you send us.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Third parties
Some content on the site comes from other services, which may receive technical information such as your IP address when your browser loads it:
- YouTube (Google). Epoch TV pages embed YouTube videos. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which limits data collection until you play a video. Once you play one, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.
- Image hosts. Article images are served from our storage provider and from image services such as Unsplash, and some come from the original publishers we cite.
- Hosting and database providers. We use Vercel to host the site and Supabase to store content. They process data on our behalf.
Market data shown on the site is retrieved by our servers from data providers. Your browser does not contact those providers directly.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period under its own retention settings. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of corrections and tips.
Your choices and rights
You can clear your saved preferences at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how we use it. Children
Epoch Network is a news publication for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If we begin using analytics or advertising, we will say so here before we do.
